Just imagine, for a pittance of $2.50 you could own such works as the mighty Dwarf:
The mysterious and powerful Elementals:
I love it! I wonder, did anyone every actually buy any of these prints? I noticed that by Strategic Review #2 these prints were no longer being offered.
Who were the artists in the LBBs?
ReplyDeleteI want the Balrog and EHP!
ReplyDeleteThe artist was Greg Bell. He did a number of wargaming art before D&D came out. His fantasy art mostly comes from comic books, like Doctor Strange, Nick Furry, and the works of Esteban Maroto (namely Dax the Damned in "Chess", from Comix International #3).
ReplyDeleteOh, I almost forgot! I always found that Amazon to be really sexy. =D
ReplyDeleteI think TSR pulped the prints when it turned out that Bell had copies images from comic books (as Malcadon alludes to). I've only ever seen one set on eBay or rec.games.frp.marketplace from BITD.
ReplyDeleteAllan.
That is hilarious! Considering what they must have paid for those "works of art", a single sale should have resulted in getting all their money back!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info and link, Malcadon!
ReplyDeleteNow that you've pointed it out, I can easily see the Maroto style in the 'Elementals'.
Oh yeah, James Maliszewski from Grognardia pointed the Marvel-side of Greg Bell's influence.
